I have always been wary of developing back problems, as these do run in my family… Esther Gokhale suffered from chronic back problems herself. After an hernia operation that did not bring much relief, she explored how people in traditional cultures can stand, sit or walk for hours without problems. Their posture is different from what has become the normal posture in the western world since about 100 years – if you look at old statues and images from before 1920, a good posture was also normal here! She developed a method so we can relearn this ‘primal posture’.

When I read about the Gokhale method some years ago, I added myself to her newsletter. As I did not have problems, the only part that I adopted mostly, was to bend from the hips while gardening. More recently, I decided to explore the method further as my daughter does have back problems and I would like to support her. This method can help for most people to prevent and cure back problems , and I encourage you to learn more about it on the Gokhale Method website, where you can also find the schedule with regular free online introduction workshops!

I now pay attention to keep the keyboard close to my body when I type, and also watch my posture when I do the Nitric Oxide Dump routine 3 times a day! We hope to master good posture better with the help of Julie Johnson, a Gokhale Method teacher in Southern Germany who can teach in German and English.
